Five Ways To Ensure Your Kids Maintain Optimum Oral Health

Five Ways To Ensure Your Kids Maintain Optimum Oral Health

POSTED BY VARNI DENTAL ON MAY 14 2021, 10:17 AM

Healthy teeth and gums are a treasure, as they can significantly affect your overall health. Although we as adults take care of our oral health by brushing our teeth and visiting the dentist for routine consultations, children wouldn’t be able to do this by themselves. Hence, it is the job of the parents to ensure their children’s oral health doesn’t deviate from the expected standard.

Here are a few ways to keep your children’s oral cavities healthy and free from dental conditions.

Educate them

It is crucial you educate your children about the importance of brushing and flossing their teeth from a young age. You may show them educational videos that explain why it is crucial to brush their teeth and what would happen if they don’t. The fear of developing cavities can drive them to keep away from sweets and brush their teeth thoroughly.

Set a Good Example

Children often learn from their parents, and it is our job to set a good example. When you brush and floss every day, make sure your child does too. Doing in front of a mirror while looking at each other allows them to mimic you and duplicate exactly what you’re doing.

Keep Sweets to a Minimum

Consuming foods containing more sweet content often increases the chances of developing cavities. The microbes in the mouth feed on the sugary residues left in the mouth, which promote tooth decay significantly. Hence, it is best to keep their sugar intake to a minimum. Even if they do eat sweets, make sure they gargle well with water to remove the adhered residues from the teeth. Instead of sweets, try to include more fruits and veggies in their diet, as they strengthen the teeth and improve their overall health as well. Call us now.

Make Brushing Fun

When you make brushing the teeth seem like a lot of fun, children will do it with more interest. Allow them to choose a special toothpaste made especially for children, which could be quite flavourful and based on cartoon characters. For instance, toothpaste based on Disney characters is quite popular among children.

Ensure to Take Them to the Dentist in San Jose, CA Regularly

Taking your child to a pediatric dentist in San Jose, CA for routine consultations and cleanings is crucial in checking for cavities, oral infections, gum disease, falling off of baby teeth and erupting of permanent teeth, malocclusion, etc. If any such concerns are spotted, we will suggest suitable treatment or medication to address them as required.

Entrust us with your child’s oral health. Dr. Kinjal Patel is one of the best kids’ dentists in the Bay Area and is highly recommended by her patients.

We request you to schedule a consultation with our dentist, Dr. Patel, to get all your oral concerns addressed at the earliest. Please call us at (408) 901-0101 or reach out through online consultation, and we’ll be happy to help.
