Keep Your Smile Healthy With General Dentistry

Keep Your Smile Healthy With General Dentistry

POSTED BY VARNI DENTAL ON AUG 30 2022, 3:06 AM

General dentistry is the practice of taking care of your teeth, gums, and mouth through regular check-ups and preventative care. General dentistry is also comprised of procedures that treat and prevent common dental problems, including cavities and gum disease. It also helps keep patients’ smiles healthy and bright.

General dentistry procedures include:

Fillings

Fillings are one of the most common general dentistry treatments. Dental fillings restore teeth that have been damaged by decay. To place a filling, the dentist will first remove the decayed portion of the tooth. The filling will restore the tooth structure, strengthen it and improve its appearance.

We use tooth-colored fillings to repair teeth because white fillings are much less noticeable than metal fillings. When you smile, laugh or speak, the filling won’t be visible.

Crowns

A dental crown is a restoration that replaces the entire visible part of a tooth. A crown can be placed over a damaged tooth to protect and stabilize it. Our dentist in San Jose can design a custom dental crown that looks just like your natural teeth. It can also be placed over a dental implant to replace one or more missing teeth.

Bridge

A dental bridge is a structure made up of multiple crowns attached together. It is held in place by attaching to the adjacent teeth. The crowns are crafted from porcelain, a material that mimics the appearance of natural enamel. The porcelain is fused to a metal core.

A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. It is permanently cemented in place and is not removable. Call us now.

Dentures

Dentures are a removable type of tooth replacement. They are used to replace missing teeth and help restore your smile. Dentures are secured with a dental adhesive or a denture adhesive cream. There are two types of dentures: full and partial. Full dentures are used to replace all of the upper or lower teeth or both. Partial dentures are used when you still have a few natural teeth remaining.

Root Canals

If you experience a toothache, we may recommend a root canal. Root canal therapy allows us to remove infected or decayed tooth pulp. During treatment, we’ll also remove all traces of the infection from the tooth. We can also perform a root canal to save a tooth after it’s been injured or developed an infection.

Gum Disease Treatment

If your dentist has diagnosed you with gum disease, there are several treatments available to treat the condition. Which treatment you receive will depend on the severity of your gum disease. The most common ones are scaling and root planing, which is also known as deep cleaning.
