Everything you need to know about dentures

Losing a natural tooth can be quite upsetting as it could leave a displeasing appearance on your smile. Also, the functionality of the mouth would be hindered, as the missing tooth can change the way you bite and chew food. If losing a single tooth would be so troublesome, imagine having multiple teeth extracted due to causes such as decay, oral trauma, or other oral infections. It could completely ruin your smile and alter your facial aesthetics significantly. Hence, we would like to provide the perfect solution to this concern using custom-fabricated dentures.

What are dentures?

Dentures are oral prosthetics made from acrylic and dental-grade ceramic. They are widely used to replace multiple missing teeth, as they restore both oral aesthetics and functionality. Unlike most other dental restorations, dentures are removable, making them highly convenient and hassle-free.

What are the advantages of choosing dentures?

  • Dentures are customizable according to the requirement of the patient, giving them the perfect fit.
  • They can be used to restore just a few missing teeth as well. These are called partial dentures and are held firmly in position with the help of a metal framework.
  • Dentures make your face appear fuller as they fill the cheeks and chin. Many patients tend to look several years younger when they put on dentures.
  • Dentures completely restore oral aesthetics, as the acrylic can be customized to mimic the gums and the dental-grade ceramic teeth look exactly like natural ones.
  • Patients who get dentures will be able to bite and chew food like they always used to.
  • They are highly durable. With optimum care, dentures are known to last for many years without any trouble.
  • In case the dentures feel loose in your mouth or warped, you can easily get them re-contoured. The dentist will help you with this.
  • They are the best means to restore multiple teeth, as dental bridges or implants wouldn’t be suitable for this purpose.
  • The dentures can be taken off as and when required, such as while going to bed or when you have to clean them. Also, cleaning dentures is quite easy.

How can you get your very own customized dentures?

When you visit us for the initial consultation, we will take precise digital scans of the mouth and screen it thoroughly. This helps us determine your candidacy for dentures and also serves as a reference for fabricating them. We will send the digital impressions to a dental laboratory, where they will be fabricated in a couple of weeks.

Once available, the dentist will place them in your mouth and check for fit and comfort. A bite test will be taken to determine how well they sit on the dental ridges. If you feel they are ill-fitting, the dentist will make the necessary changes to the prostheses and provide perfectly fitting dentures.

How to care for the dentures?

Taking good care of dentures can significantly increase their lifespan. It is advisable to avoid biting or chewing hard foods, such as ice cubes, nuts, candies, etc., as it could damage them. Clean them regularly with a soft-bristled toothbrush (no toothpaste involved) to remove the food debris and microbes. When you go to bed, please place them in a glass of water or dentures-cleansing solution, as it keeps them from warping. If you wish to get their fit altered, reach out to your dentist at the earliest.
