How to Handle a Dental Emergency

Posted by VARNI DENTAL on Jan 17 2022, 08:55 PM

Nowadays, dental emergencies are common. Losing a tooth can be scary, but the best way to handle the case is to consult with a dentist immediately. A dental emergency can occur at any time and most of us are unwilling to call our dentists. Stifling the pain may lead to serious issues.

As first aid, we can apply a cold compress to the affected area for a few minutes to relieve pain and bleeding. If you can’t stop the bleeding, go to your dentist immediately. At Varni Denta, we offer the best emergency treatment for various injuries.

What Are the Common Dental Emergencies?

Broken Tooth
A chipped or broken tooth will hurt. Rinse with warm water and hold a piece of gauze to the area. Then apply a cold compress to the part of your face near the broken tooth to avoid swelling and to relieve pain.

Loss of Permanent Tooth
This occurs due to a heavy injury during an accident or a similar mishap. The best way to handle this situation is to consult with an experienced dentist ASAP. They will try and re-implant it.

Severe Toothache
A toothache indicates a warning message that you may have an underlying dental issue that should be treated before other symptoms occur.

Dental Abscess
A dental abscess is a pocket of pus in between the teeth. It becomes a serious issue when not treated on time. When untreated, the infection may spread to the surrounding teeth.

Does Food Lodgment Cause Dental Emergencies?

Food lodgment occurs when food items get stuck in between our teeth. It may lead to irritation and sensitivity. Food lodgment may also lead to a dental emergency like gum diseases, cavities, misaligned teeth, etc. To avoid this issue, brush your teeth gently after finishing a meal. If you know where exactly it’s stuck, try flossing over there.

Prevention and Treatment of Food Lodgment

The best way to avoid food lodging is to keep our teeth always clean.
  1. Flossing or cleaning
  2. Use aligners
  3. Orthodontic treatment
NOTE:  Using a toothpick to remove food items between the teeth should be avoided. It could lead to inflammation. Rather, use any hygienic method like floss brushes or a water floss system.
