Baby Teething Comfort Tips

Although teething is a natural process for all newborns, it does come with its own set of challenges. Most children begin teething at the age of six months, which causes sore gums, irritability, drooling, and gum pain.

At Varni Dental in San Jose, California, we often assist parents by answering any questions they may have about their child's teeth and growth. If your baby is teething and you're not sure what to do to help them relax, here are 5 baby teething comfort suggestions that will come in handy.

  • Massage the Gums

Applying pressure to your baby's gums may help relieve the pain. Lay your infant on the bed after carefully cleansing your hands, and softly massage their gums with your finger. This may assist your infant in relaxing and falling asleep.

  • Wipe Away the Drool

Teething is frequently coupled with excessive drooling, which leads to drooling rashes caused by drool buildup on or around the child's face. This might cause not just irritation for the newborn, but also discoloration of their fragile skin. Make careful to soothe your teething baby by wiping excess drool from their face. This will prevent teething discomfort caused by an itchy, unattractive skin rash.

  • Give the Baby Chilled Fruits

If your child has started eating solid foods, freezing fruits is an excellent way to ease their teething gums. To begin, place cooled mashed bananas or other fruit in a mesh feeder and allow the baby to suck on them. Pears and strawberries are two more fruits you could feed them. Cut a large chunk of apple and place it in the freezer for an hour before serving it to the infant.

  • Extra Time for Cuddling

Extra cuddling time is sometimes the ideal way to treat a crying infant. Rocking your baby in a large chair or carrying your infant around the home are also excellent options. The extra cuddling time will allow you both to catch some much-needed sleep.

  • Pain Medications

As a last option, you might discuss with your doctor the possibility of supplying over-the-counter pain medicine. These medications help to relieve pain and allow the infant to sleep. Your pediatrician can advise you on the proper dosage and the best sort of pain reliever to use.

Teething is unpleasant for both the baby and the parent. Regular dental appointments establish the foundation for your child's healthy gums and teeth. To schedule your child's first appointment, call us at (408) 901-0101 or visit our office at 181 E Tasman Dr Suite 60, San Jose, CA 95134.
